REGIONALS!!
12:17am 31/03/2006

mood: ecstatic
music: You're Beautiful - James Blunt
So I just found out today (Thursday) that I was accepted as a referee for Regionals! - For those of you who aren't familiar with what 'Regionals' is let me elaborate. Every year, each state holds a state tournament for youth club teams in January-March. In Washington there are 3 cups, Championship, Challenge, and Commissioners (from highest to lowest). Depending on the skill of the team (which is decided in a tourament the previous summer and also depends on how they fared during their regular season in the fall). The teams go through various elimination rounds until it gets down to the Semi-Finals in each age group and bracket (both boys and girls). This is where the fun referee part comes in. Each year, there is a "Semi-Final camp" held the weekend the Semi-Finals are played. All the referees working (who are selected by application) stay at a hotel and have training - in other words, treating the games as if they were pro games. It's good stuff. So I worked at Semis this year (I did last year too). They are at the end of February. I got some good games and got to work with some great referees. Depending on how your performance is at Semis, you can also receive a Finals match. I had a Under 13 Girls commissioners cup final middle (top position - lowest cup). It is an honor to receive a middle at any level in any cup, so I very grateful. I did well in the game and was pleased with my performance. In addition to applying for Semis and Finals (in Washington) I applied to go to Regionals this year. Regionals is the tournament where all the winners of State Cup Finals in the Championship Cup go on and compete against the winners from several other states in the region (hence Regionals). Washington only sends 35 referees to Regionals and I was blessed enough to be chosen as one of them. The tournament is a week long and is held in different places around the region year to year. This year it is in Boise, ID June 18-25. I am extremely excited for this opportunity. Excited enough to type all this crap up at 12:15am anyways . Well I just thought I'd share my 'exciting news' with you guys. If this confused the crap out of you, please ask me to clarify.

Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Flying high,
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

Seahawks defeated by referees
09:33pm 05/02/2006
Anybody else out there watch the game today and think the refs were on crack in the Super Bowl? I'm a referee myself (soccer) and I think that has to be the worst referee football game I have ever seen. All told, the referees took away 18 points from the Seahawks (7 for D-Jack's 'offensive pass interference, 7 for the stupid hold they called on Lochlear when Stevens caught the ball at the 2 yard line and gave Pitt 7 on the Roethlisberger "touchdown" - I say 18 because even if Roethlisberger hadn't gotten in, they still would have kicked a field goal) I guess this is just a vent, but I felt it was absolutely a disgrace to all referees what happened in today's Super Bowl.

Last full day in Europe

mood: tired
music: High of 75 - Relient K
Howdy. Today is my last day in Europe. (I fly out tomorrow, but today's the last full day). We are back in Amsterdam again after a day at the Bavarian castles (Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein), a day in Munich (beer and a pretzel at the Hofbräuhaus), a day in Salzburg (chamber music concert), a day in the medieval town of Rothenburg (cool church and saw a concert band from Utah play in the town square), cruised up the Rhine river in a steam paddleboat (amazing views and lots of schweet castles), a day in Köln (the Köln Dom is the largest cathedral in Germany and one of the largest in the world), a day in Brugge (Belgium), and am now back in Amsterdam. We are going to see a chamber orchestra tonight play in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. It will be sweet. I fly to Copenhagen tomorrow at 10:20am (an hour 20 flight) and then fly to Seattle at 3:50pm. I'm gunna have some time to kill at the Copenhagen airport (hey, that sounds familiar). I land in Seattle at 4:50 Monday. It will be nice to be home, but I will definately miss it here.

Hey from Berlin!

music: Coldplay - Till Kingdom Come
I'm pretty regularly checking my e-mail and accessing the internet now (every 1 or 2 days). Things have been amazing on my trip with my dad so far. In Amsterdam we went to the Anne Frank Huis, and the Rijksmuseum and in Haarlem (15 minutes west out of Amsterdam by train) we went to the ten Boom museum and St. Bavo's Grote Kerk (great church). That night we heard an hour long organ concert in the church. It is the largest organ in Holland and one of the largest in the world. I took an amazing picture of it and I'm going to blow it up and frame it for my room. I also bought 2 prints from the Rijksmuseum store (I found them at the actual store but it was more practical to order them online) that I absolutely loved. It cost me about €45 for them though. Shipping got me. Oh well, it was worth it. Right now I am in an internet cafe in Alexanderplatz (right next to the TV tower). We went to the Berliner Dom today. I conviced my dad to come up to the dome gallery (its right on the base of the largest dome - a path all the way around) all 267 stairs of it. The view of the city was incredible. I still hate heights though. We took a night train (sleeper train) last night from Amsterdam to Brussels then switched there and headed to Berlin. It was really weird. It was like you got on, then you were immediatly supposed to go to bed. With 6 people in one room. If you can call it a room. But we survived and are staying at the Mercure that we stayed at. Amsterdam is a really expensive city. Everything there is more expensive. Its nice to be back in Berlin. Except for their retarded Fanta bottles with the lame thingy that doesn't come off the lid. We're going to the Pergamon Museum when we're done here. It should be fun. Tonight we're turning in early, seeing how every night so far has been a late one (midnight or later). Tomorrow is another full day in Berlin followed by a full day in Leipzig. The next day we head to München (Munich). It should be fun. I guess that's all for now. Later guys. Here's pictures of the 2 prints I purchased from the Rijksmuseum: (#1 is called The Mill at Wijk bij Duurstede and #2 is called Interior of the Sint Bavo Church in Haarlem - the church we heard the organ concert in last night)

STRAIGHT FROM SAIA

STRAGHT FROM SAIA!!!

ok. so after youth group...we went to DQ. as usual. and then instead of going home, chris cunningham (joshs older bro) whose a good friend of mine. took me and meghan and daniel home. well we went to his apartment first and had a "rave" with his strobe light. haha. and then we took meghan home cause she had to be home by 10:30. and then on his way over to my house....

we saw a garbage can...and daniel was like "KNOCK IT OVER!!"....and so he did. and we got addicted. so we were in my neighborhood..and theres this street that goes around the block...so we knocked over like 4 garbage cans...one of which spilled garbage allllll over the street. and then!...we had like 4 mins to get me home. we go to the end of the road...and are like "one more..." and then we see a cop....

and so chris sees the cop turn around. and so he pulls into a driveway and turns off his lights...and the cop didnt come up the street. but in the process of pullling into the driveway he scraped his bumper...and so then whenever he turned his wheels made a noise...so we pulled into the 7-11 parking lot by my house....and so we inspected the bumper and found the problem and fixed it in like 2 seconds....but then...

as we pull out of the parking lot...the cop sees us. again. so he pulls up another road and pulls into a driveway and turns off his lights....and we see the cop drive by the interscting road. and then we wait a few minutes and think its safe...and right as we pull out...the cop drives up the road. turns around and starts following us. and im like "I DONT WANT HIM TO FOLLOW US UP MY DRIVEWAY!!!!!" and soooo....we were like "CRAP! what are we gonna do!"

then he turns on his lights....

and we're like..."weve been caught...it was fun guys"

but the cop comes out and was like "youre right tail light is out."

Math Coming out my Ears

mood: depressed
music: nothing
Yeah, today I did math all day (and I'll probably continue after dinner). I also have to write an essay for Tolkien/Lewis. My head hurts from continual numbers and polynomials running through my brain. I'm so tired. I guess I'll see most of you guys on Wednesday. I'll enter something tomorrow, though.
